Panel Overview
A Golden and Grumpy Entrance
The interview kicks off with a long-running bit between host Anthony Carboni and Anthony Daniels, the actor behind C-3PO. Carboni jokingly introduces Daniels by claiming he actively tried to cancel the interview. Daniels then makes a grand entrance wearing a sparkling gold blazer, only to immediately complain that he was not allowed to have pyrotechnics. The two spend the first few minutes trading comedic insults.
Entering The Volume
The two settle into a conversation about Daniels’ recent return to the character for a cameo in Ahsoka. Daniels explains that he flew in from Canada, threw on the suit, and filmed a scene in a massive, open-air courtroom. Because he was jetlagged, he did not realize he was standing inside The Volume until the crew flipped a switch at the end of the day and the sky disappeared.
Understanding Episode IX
Daniels discusses his recent work narrating Star Wars in Concert, where he tells the story of the Skywalker Saga. He notes that having to condense the story of all nine films into a single script finally helped him understand what actually happened in The Rise of Skywalker. He also jokes that Episode IX is his favorite film to work on because C-3PO gets all the best lines.
The Japanese Book Release
Daniels proudly shows off the new Japanese translation of his book I Am C-3PO. Carboni attempts to see if his name is included in the book’s massive index of people Daniels has worked with, only to find out he was left out. Daniels signs a copy of the book for Carboni live on stage.
Protecting a National Treasure
The segment ends with Carboni bringing up a fan comment saying Daniels is a national treasure and needs to be wrapped in bubble wrap and kept safe. Carboni decides to take the comment literally, and an assistant brings a massive roll of bubble wrap onto the stage. The two men completely wrap Daniels in the plastic to put him into the archives and ensure he safely makes it to the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
