Our STEAM Academy afternoons will include a series of special talks with representatives from Pinewood Studios! Members of the Creature Effects Crew will be sharing experiences with interactive elements to illustrate some of the STEAM movie magic behind Star Wars in the areas of DroidBuilding, Art Creation, Fabrication, Electronics and Puppeteering. Students will get to interact with the speakers and participate in demonstrations/activities that reflect the topics of each talk.

[Ages 10-18] Whether it’s BB-8 or Babu Frik, Matt Denton has masterfully used microcontrollers and electronics to animate practical droids and creatures from the Star Wars Universe. During this talk, Matt will share the advances of animatronic control systems over his 10 year experience and how they have impacted these creations. Students will see how engineering and technology can be used in unique ways to make their favorite characters fun, engaging, and thrilling for audiences everywhere!
