Announcing Star Wars: Starfighter

The pair is finally able to publicly announce the title of their new film: Star Wars: Starfighter. Levy shares details about the project, confirming that it is a brand new adventure featuring original characters. He emphasizes that the movie is neither a prequel nor a sequel; instead, it is set in an entirely new, unexplored era taking place after the Battle of Exegol.

Production Timeline & Release Date

Levy clarifies that the film is officially out of the development phase and is currently in pre-production. Filming is slated to begin this fall, and Levy announces that the movie will be released in theaters on Memorial Day, May 27, 2027.

Gosling’s Lifelong Fandom

During the interview, Gosling sports a hat that reads “Never Tell Me The Odds,” which he explains is the perfect touchstone advice for the daunting task of stepping into such a beloved franchise. He also laughs about his mother getting in on the announcement excitement by sharing a childhood photo of his Empire Strikes Back bed sheets during their main panel. When asked why he chose to take on this project, Gosling credits his long-time desire to work with Levy, as well as a script packed with heart, adventure, and the opportunity to shine a light on a new side of the Star Wars universe.

The Force is the Fans

Both Levy and Gosling express how inspiring and moving it is to be surrounded by the fans at Star Wars Celebration. Gosling notes that while the Force is a mysterious thing, being at the event makes him feel that “the Force is the fans,” adding his hope that the fans will be with them on this cinematic journey.
