Panel Overview
The Arrival of Daddy Pedro [00:09] Host Anthony Carboni introduces Pedro Pascal by joking about world-class babysitters who know how to simultaneously ward off baddies while watching a child. The crowd goes wild as Pascal walks onto the stage. [01:39] After over a minute of continuous cheering from the audience, Carboni laughs and remarks, “This is what happens when you tell the internet that they can call you daddy Pedro.” Carboni jokes that the audience has rendered him completely useless and that he has died from the overwhelming response. The Stolen Lego Minifig [02:11] Carboni tells a story about the time Pedro Pascal threw him under the bus during the D23 reveal for The Mandalorian toys. Carboni explains that he was strictly warned by security not to touch or move any of the toys, which included the Razor Crest ship and a prototype Mandalorian Lego minifigure that was transported in a locked, handcuffed briefcase. [02:53] After the event, the team realized the one-of-a-kind prototype minifigure was missing. Carboni describes how security was patting him down and checking his pockets while Pascal was secretly slinking out of the room with the toy. Pascal laughs and admits, “I was like, that’s little and that’s me, that’s mine.” [03:27] Pascal reveals that security eventually came to his door to ask for the prototype back. He mentions that his neighbor had come over with her young son that day, and while he thought nobody would notice he took the tiny magnet-sized figure, he ultimately had to hand it over. The Love for The Mandalorian [04:02] Carboni asks Pascal what it has been like to watch the show blow up so massively over the last three years. Pascal immediately redirects the praise to creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, stating, “We are in the hands of very, very good Star Wars parents.” He tells the audience that it is the creators’ love, combined with the fans’ love, that has made the show what it is. He caps off the sentiment by declaring, “This is the way.” Discovering Mando’s Heart [04:55] Carboni points out that the last time they spoke on stage, no one had even seen the trailer yet. He asks how the experience of playing the character has changed for Pascal over the last three years. [05:31] Pascal says the most fascinating thing everyone has discovered about Mando’s relationship with Grogu (The Child) is that “it’s almost Mando discovering himself and discovering his own heart.” He explains that there isn’t anything more exciting than learning about yourself, and that it has been incredible to watch a stoic, armored character discover his heart. [06:10] Carboni jokes that Mando has grown into a good dad completely by instinct, then asks if Pascal is jealous that the “baby” is definitely more famous than he is. Pascal immediately responds, “No jelly. Let my baby grow!” Protecting the Secrets [06:31] Carboni asks about the challenge of doing press for the upcoming season when he isn’t allowed to reveal anything. [06:49] Pascal admits the hardest part is navigating the creative ways journalists try to trick him into giving spoilers. However, he notes that the easiest part is his genuine desire to protect the story. “I don’t want anything to be spoiled for anybody,” Pascal explains. Even though he admits to being a “big mouth” who doesn’t usually keep secrets well, he says it has been easy this time because he wants everyone to experience the surprises for the first time. Teasing Season Three [07:39] Carboni asks what it feels like to be at a Celebration event where the fans actually know the character now, rather than just seeing a few images like they did at the previous event. Pascal describes the warm embrace from the fans as simply “unbelievable.” [08:32] Carboni finishes the interview by asking Pascal to describe the upcoming third season in exactly three words without spoiling anything. [08:46] Pascal thinks for a moment and replies, “Action, spectacle, surprises.” Carboni thanks Pascal for coming and the crowd gives him one final massive round of applause before he leaves the stage.
