Panel Overview
Star Wars Celebration returns, launching with a must-see showcase that will kick the weekend’s festivities into hyperdrive. Lucasfilm’s current crop of live-action filmmakers will be joined by special guests to discuss the many Star Wars adventures coming soon, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and The Mandalorian.
Panel Recap
Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase opened Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022 with a wide-ranging look at upcoming Lucasfilm film and television projects. Hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown, the panel welcomed fans back to the first Star Wars Celebration since 2019 and opened with a live performance of “Duel of the Fates” by the Pacific Chorale.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi portion reunited Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen on the Celebration stage, joined by Deborah Chow, Moses Ingram, and Rupert Friend to preview the limited series ahead of its Disney+ premiere. McGregor announced that Celebration attendees would be able to see the first two episodes early at a special screening that evening.
The Andor segment brought Diego Luna, Genevieve O’Reilly, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, and Kathleen Kennedy to the stage. Luna introduced the show’s teaser poster and trailer, while Gilroy outlined the structure of the series as a two-season, 24-episode story leading directly into Rogue One.
The showcase also included looks at Willow, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and Indiana Jones. Ron Howard, Jonathan Kasdan, Warwick Davis, and Joanne Whalley appeared for Willow. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni appeared for The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, with Rosario Dawson sending a video message from the Ahsoka set. Katee Sackhoff appeared in person to tease Bo-Katan’s return. Jon Watts and Chris Ford introduced Skeleton Crew, with Jude Law announced as the star.
The panel closed with one of the event’s biggest surprises: John Williams appeared in person and conducted the first live performance of his Obi-Wan Kenobi theme, followed by the Indiana Jones theme. Harrison Ford then joined Williams, James Mangold, and Frank Marshall on stage to discuss the fifth Indiana Jones film.
