The Droid Races were an R2-D2 Builders activity in which fan-built astromech droids maneuvered through a course in Hall G. The event highlighted the engineering, control systems and craftsmanship behind functioning droid replicas. For spectators, the races turned static droid display into live performance, with builders showing how their creations moved, steered and handled obstacles. The races also gave the R2 builder community a public stage, demonstrating that their work was not limited to appearance: successful droids had to be reliable, responsive and entertaining in front of a crowd.
