Panel Overview

This anniversary panel brought together major behind-the-scenes contributors from the original and classic-era Star Wars films, including Robert Watts, Richard Edlund, Ken Ralston, Ben Burtt and Norman Reynolds. The session functioned as a living production history of the saga’s first three decades. The guests represented producing, production design, sound and visual effects, which meant the conversation could move across the whole filmmaking process: building worlds, creating ships and creatures, designing sound, solving effects problems and managing the practical demands of large-scale fantasy filmmaking. Fan accounts particularly remembered Robert Watts as a vivid storyteller, while the panel as a whole showed how many different crafts had to work together for Star Wars to become convincing.
