Ian McDiarmid is the Scottish actor who portrayed Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious) across all three Star Wars trilogies. Originally cast for Return of the Jedi, he used his background in theater to create the character's sinister presence and iconic gravelly voice, eventually depicting the villain's rise to power in the prequel films.
