Panel Overview

This was one of Celebration IV’s most important future-facing presentations. Producer Catherine Winder and supervising director Dave Filoni introduced Lucasfilm Animation’s new CG-animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series in its first major public presentation. The panel explained the genesis of the project, the creation of Lucasfilm Animation’s production pipeline and the goal of giving the series a cinematic action style rather than treating it as a small television spinoff. Fans saw early footage from the series, which received a strong response, and attendees were given a special Clone Wars poster that teased the arrival of a new character. The presentation also helped introduce Filoni to the fan community before he became one of the central creative figures in modern Star Wars. One of the biggest takeaways was that the series would expand the war between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith with direct involvement from George Lucas, including the idea that Anakin Skywalker would have a Padawan learner, later revealed as Ahsoka Tano.
